Wouldn’t You Love to be First?
August 17, 2009
So many people flee from the idea of standing out in the crowd that they don’t strive for first. For some it is an upbringing that conditioned them to aim for mediocre and for others it is merely a lack of patience. You see most overnight successes took a whole lot of nights.
This week Tiger Woods was defeated in the PGA Championship by Y.E. Yang, a South Korean golfer. This is the first time that Tiger has lost a major when he is leading on Sunday. That is 15 major tournaments in a row where the winning purse would be $1 000 000 at least. Think of the pressure. Think of the concentration and up until this past weekend he has never failed, until now, this would be a first.
But also think of Y.E. Yang, he just moved his family to Dallas Texas. He believed that he could make an impact on North American golf the way he had been doing so in Asia. He is not spring chicken you see, he is 37. He first saw golf instruction as a way to earn a couple of bucks as a 19 year old teenager. But after he realized he could make more money playing himself he was called into Korea’s mandatory military service. This delayed his concentrated investment into the sport until his late 20’s. You see it is a serious long shot for an Asian born golfer to win a Major Golf tournament. It is such a long shot that it has never happened. Y.E. Yang is the first.
What is stopping you from being first? Is it a fake back story that is predicting difficulty rather than success? Is it a negative environment that needs to be infused with people who believe in you and your vision? Is it just the permission that needs to be given to you that yes indeed you can be first.
First to enjoy a successful relationship in your family.
First to earn 100 000, 1 000 000 or 10 000 000 dollars in your family, neighborhood or industry?
First to solve a local, regional, national or global social problem that heretofore has appeared to be unsolvable.
Are you ready and willing to aim for first? If not then what on earth are you aiming at anyways?
Aim A Little Higher. Aim For First.
It’s Not About The Speedo
August 5, 2009
Let’s be honest, no one regularly cares about swimming. Yes we love/loathe Michael Phelps but unless he is involved we just don’t pay attention. It’s like cycling, unless Lance us pedaling we don’t care. But fortunately this week Phelps was racing and even better there was a controversy. The issue at hand was the suits. There were claims that Phelps would be unable to win this past week because his sponsor, Speedo, did not use the new material that other teams used. This controversial suit is expected to be outlawed next year and some thought that Phelps would even drop out of competition rather than lose to a soon to be outlawed swimsuit.
But let’s face it the suit never wins a race. A swimmer wins a race. And on race day not only did Phelps win he broke the record for the butterfly by racing below the 50 second mark for the first time in history. The suit never wins the race and frankly a muscle in an arm or leg or back never wins the race. The most important muscle in any race is your brain. Yes you must train diligently but if you fail to train the brain you will fail to win the race.
I grew up watch Johnny Weismueller as Tarzan on the old black and white films. When he won the Olympics in swimming people proclaimed that no one would ever swim as fast as he did. Today a 13 year old girl would have to swim faster that Johnny to be considered a serious contender in her age bracket in the pool. Are these girls bigger and stronger than the mighty Tarzan. Absolutely not! Their muscles aren’t better but their brain and the expectations set by the minds are greater.
So let’s bring this home to you. If you are not resetting your mind for massive accomplishment and fulfillment then you are training the wrong muscles. Just doing what you have always done faster or harder or longer is not the answer. You must reset how you think, believe, expect, plan and envision. Let me be frank, you won’t do it without a coach to force you to face and do all the things you have been avoiding with your mind. For some of you reading this you have been bumping into the same brick wall for decades and despite the bruises, blood and unbroken barriers you have failed to change your mental approach.

Co-Creation Can Touch Every Area of Your Life
My good friend, Joan Childs and her husband John recently returned from a very fruitful trip to Malawi. We have adopted 5 villages in this poor country through an organization I co-founded with my wife Sandy four years ago called Impact Malawi. As we Co-Create together we are adopting 100 villages in Malawi and it all happens because of the power of multiplication Co-Creation.
I am so privileged to write, teach and train with Susan Sly. It was Susan and Chris who were the first great donators to our work in Malawi. It was three years of giving before they ever saw the fruit of their generosity and visited our Malawian villages. As we Co-Create as a company Susan offers so many different opportunities for our passion for the Third World to be brought to the spotlight. It amazes me the stages that Susan ushers me and our passion onto that brings such stupendous results.
Step Into Your Power began Co-Creating with Peak Impact in the spring of this year and the passion and ingenuity of that great company allowed us to raise a fantastic amount of money in just a few minutes. The pictures I am showing you today are just a small first few steps toward demonstrating the power of our two companies’ Co-Creation.
The village in these pictures is Chipinika and it will be free of both Malaria and Dysentery this year as a result of this powerful Co-Creation. The Malaria Nets and Waterguard are very effective in saving the lives of small children from the #1 and #2 killers of little boys and girls.
This is fun! This is exciting! This is the answer to so many challenges facing our lives and our world today.
Remember, “There is more money in the world than there is great ideas!”
Most people do not believe this and they are poorer for their lack of insight and belief.
What is the great idea that will allow you to utilize the fantastic power of Co-Creation to change a life, a community or the world?
“Say It Out Loud! Write It Down!”
Say it out loud so others can hear your vision and join with you to multiply your strengths and resources to produce a tremendous outcome.
Write it down so that you day dreams turn into visions and your visions into action plans and your action plans into reality. I have never dreamed more than I do today! I plan to say that same sentence truthfully for the rest of my life.
Are you living with that same sense of purpose?
Join Susan Sly and myself and our many different Co-Creation partners and let’s live a life worth living.
